Teaming with Parents from Diverse Backgrounds: A New Perspective

Live Webinar, Friday, 14 May 2021

7:00 PM EDT - 8:00 PM EDT (4:00-5:00 PM PDT)

Daniel Mendoza, M.S., BCBA (He/Him), Cert #1-16-24542

Tickets: $10/1 Ethics CE, $1 General Admission

Event Description: As Behavior Analysts we interact with parents on a daily basis. They have their set of priorities and values, as do we the "professionals." Maintaining awareness of parent values and barriers, as related to differing cultures, is imperative to the success of intervention. Parents are the main manipulators of the environment and assuring we work well with them is foundational to the progression of treatment.

Learning Objectives: 1. Behavior Analysts will engage in "Active Listening" to identify values.  2. Parents will engage "Active Listening" to report on possible covert behavior that is a barrier to treatment. 3. All Learners will engage in conversation exploring familial and cultural expectations during delivery of services.

About the Speaker, Daniel Mendoza, M.S., BCBA (He/Him): Daniel has worked in the field of applied behavior analysis for 22 years at different levels of organizations, practice areas, and with clients of various ages and abilities. Currently, he is the Clinical Director for Special Needs Network ABA department, specializing in the delivery of services within underserved communities.  More recently he has started his own company, Behavioral Analytics, with the intent of disseminating Behavior Analysis to black and brown communities. Given his 11-year tenure working within brown and black communities and developing a multitude of programs specifically aimed at addressing gaps in access to services, he would like to mentor, train, and teach other practitioners so that they may develop their competence.  Mentoring is one of his top priorities and is currently mentoring 30 BIPOC practitioners in his practitioners at Special Needs Network.
